Like I mentioned last week, some friends and I spent Valentine's Day having a good ole fashioned roadtrip. We started the day with a pit stop at The Saguaro and then made our way to the main reason behind this fantasticly wonderous daytrip: Salvation Mountain. Y'all. This place is the very definition of awesome. When I was a child I used to spend my days imagining what words actually looked like, and I can say most certainly this is what I think the word "awesome" looks like. This is one of the most random and beautiful things I have ever seen. Literally in the middle of the desert, on the outskirts of a basically abandoned town, is Salvation Mountain. Leonard Knight, who passed away just last year, spent years making this beautiful creation and you can read his story here. There are two parts of the mountain, the mountain itself and the Hogan (the museum) which he modeled after his failed hot air balloon! This place welcomes all, artists, squatters, families, folks in love, and friends of every kind. There were many people visiting while we were there, but even among the, "Jillian get in the car right now or I am taking away your iPad", I still found it incredibly moving. There was even a moment when we made it to the top, that out of NOWHERE a hang glider came around the mountain & I swear it was like something straight out of a movie. This is a place you just have to experience in person to fully appreciate. But I hope this post will help convince you it's well worth the trip :) Like I said...you GOT to experience this awesome place in person :)
For more about this roadtrip see... Part 1: The Saguaro Part 3: The Salton Sea I know it's been awhile since I posted some fun links, so I thought I'd bring it back! Plus the "happy giggle" has made me smile (and kept me distracted) for most of the day today ;) So enjoy and SPREAD THE HAPPINESS FOLKS! A happy little diddy... (The Drifters - "Up On The Roof") My dad said this song came on while he was cooking & reminded him of me. I have listened to it everyday since :) A happy read... TIME - "10 Science-Proven Ways to Be Happier" A happy snapshot... In honor of the most GLORIOUS moment from this past Oscars, a picture of one of my all time favorite humans A happy giggle... Fun Fact: Mine is "Rush Rush" by Paula Abdul. With special guest Keanu Reeves starring in the music video...90schild A happy thought... Preach it Dolly!!
Over the weekend some gal pals and I took a random daytrip through the desert to Salvation Mountain (more on that later). It's about a 3.5 hour drive from Los Angeles which means there's plenty of time for quality conversation and several 90s jam sessions. Special shout out to Spotify for putting The Macarena on the playlist and providing a solid 3 minutes of dancing and horrendous middle school flashbacks. A 3.5 hour drive also means the occasional pit stop to stretch those legs! We decided to stop in Palm Springs which is a little over halfway there! And if you're gonna walk around for a bit, might as well have something to look at, right? That's where The Saguaro comes in. I think it's safe to say it's one of the most colorful hotels on the planet. And it's really just impossible not to be happy when you are surrounded by all this colorful fun!!! If you're ever in the Palm Springs area I recommend stopping by, and obviously book a room if you ever plan a getaway to this desert oasis. I can't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else! ^^^If this doesn't scream "California Summer" I don't know what does we may or may not have crashed a wedding party having what looked to be the most epic pool party of all time^^^ What's the best way to stretch after a long car ride you ask??? Oh a photoshoot. That's what.
Happy Wednesday friends!! To get you through your hump day I just thought I'd share with you some doodles I have turned into free printables! Recently I have found doodling these puppies to be incredibly therapeutic, not to mention fun (obviously). But there's no sense in just keeping them for myself, so here ya go! They make great printables for a gallery wall, a little print out to put on your bathroom mirror, or as a background for your computer/phone!! I have the "Kindness Matters" one on my work computer and it is the greatest little reminder when I log in every morning :)
Oh! And I have many many more, including free calendars, coming your way! So stay tuned y'all!!! |
