To me, spring means one thing... happiness. No matter how hard I might try and fight it some days, it is impossible for me to not be happy as soon as I step outside. So it got me thinking, why don't I make a conscious effort this spring to really enjoy it? This is the first time in my entire life that I will not be experiencing spring in Texas. So while this means no more fields (and fields and fields and FIELDS) of bluebonnets, I am excited to see what spring means in Southern California!
Here's my bucketlist for this spring season. Since it is May and spring is almost over (say it ain't so!!) I have already checked some of these guys off and the rest shouldn't be too hard to do at some point this month ;) So here we go, let's finish this season stronger and happier friends!
1. Drive with the windows down as much as possible. Driving is one of my favorite things to do, luckily I moved to LA where you spend about 70% of the time in your car. Though LA traffic and general driving tomfoolery tends to bring out some serious road rage, I have discovered driving with the window down is a great fix for this problem. And now that the weather is PERFECTION, there is no excuse not to do it!
2. Start a garden on my balcony. Late last summer I attempted to start a garden and failed within the first few weeks. I think, scratch that, I know the problem was my own laziness. I tried to grow it on my roof (as that's the place that gets the most sunlight) but going up and down those stairs in the morning quickly became a pain. I am NOT a morning person... I don't know what made me think an extra chore every morning would make me one... Nonetheless I think I can handle a garden on my balcony. I mean, I open up my blinds every morning, so I might as well open the door and water some plants right??
3. Take a day trip somewhere new and fun. There are SO many neat places to discover in California, and I cannot think of a better time to discover them then when the weather (and my attitude) is so pleasant.
4. Go to a baseball game before it gets too hot. Granted, LA baseball games are still enjoyable during the summer months, but as a home-grown Texas girl (go RANGERS!) it is hard for me to picture a baseball game in the summer that didn't involve hair pulled up, dollar-store fans, lemon-chills (to put on the back of our necks, obviously) and a massive amount of sweat... so spring baseball it is!
5. Have more picnics! Let's be honest, the best thing about the spring season is being OUTDOORS. I mean there is just NO excuse to stay inside when the weather is always so pleasantly perfect, and to me that means spending all day outside with good friends and good food.
